Tailored resume design inspiration

May 2025

You should care about customising the look, feel and values

Ten years ago, I had no idea how to write an application or set up a professional CV. At the same time, I received my first course, which, in return, made a huge difference since it landed me more interviews. It became an interest of mine, and throughout the years, I continued to fail and learn to perfect this craft. Fast-forward to 2022, and I help friends and acquaintances, as you can see in one of my other portfolio cases. The portfolio serves as an inspirational guide for designing tailored resumes to enhance your chances of gaining an interview.

Let me show you some resume design examples

1# Minimalistic and providing similar fun facts

About the company

SimplyOrganized sells baskets, folders, containers, etc., to help you declutter your home. It is a small start-up company where it is the norm for the customer service, marketing, and warehouse team members to help each other and ensure alignment across the departments.

Website branding

Simple, white and grey with thin black lines.

Website about home items

Who do they seek?

A customer service assistant who is not afraid to pick up the phone and is used to different digital tools can assist the marketing and warehouse team.

In my CV, I match the website brand by using white and grey colours and dividing content into thin black lines.

I also mentioned that I was both a marketing and warehouse assistant at Efuma and used WordPress at Impact Extend.

How do they present themselves?

On their “About us” page, each team member presents their education, a fun fact, how long they have been “an organiser” and their favourite product. To show them that I truly explored their website, I wrote the same in my application or cover letter.

This led to not only an interview, but I am now a part of the team.

2# Frisky and proving, I also have similar values

About the company

Saichologist is a startup health tech company that has created an app to reduce time spent on administrative tasks among psychologists so they can spend time on what matters; their patients and their own mental health.

Website branding

Blue, yellow, vibrant, informal colour and feel.

Who do they seek?

A marketing assistant with experience in content writing, newsletter creation and brainstorming.

In my CV and application, I made sure to match the colour and feel of their brand.

I also wrote about how I have designed meaningful solutions to match their meaningful product.

3# Daring with a play on words and themes

About the company

SharkGaming Systems offers gaming computers, from the products themselves to guidance and the preparation of customised computers. The team are real nerdy sharks within this field, offering everything from laptops to water cooling and additional products like mousepads and t-shirts.

Website branding

Black and dark blue, modern and masculine.

Who do they seek?

They seek a marketing assistant within SEO and automation. Here I focused on highlighting my marketing experience and that I used to be an intern at two game-related companies. The team consists of Danes and internationals and mainly male employees. Therefore, I of cause mentioned that I am half Danish and half British and used to working in a male-dominated field that had to do with electronics, marketing and gaming e.g. selling e-cigarettes, working with marketing automation at Impact Extend etc.

Employment demands
Ocean filter over images

Photo edit and fish puns

I noticed on their “About us” page that each employee had an ocean filter on top of their image, so I edited my CV image to match. At the end of the application, I added a “sea pun” by writing “I am applying for this position to dive deep into a big ocean of possibilities,” to tailor it to their shark brand.

Result

I never received an offer for an interview or even a rejection letter.

But the point of showing this example is just for you to see a different way to show the readers that you have really explored their website and done your homework.

Learned something and gained reach

I learned how to add an ocean filter via Photoshop, and it gave me an opportunity to share that on LinkedIn, which provides some reach. So, overall, it was not a waste of my time.
